Moments and app blocking
How do I begin a moment?
Choose what matters, then tap Begin a moment, or turn your iPhone face-down with Virama open. Stay until you’re done, or choose 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Face-down start needs an iPhone with a proximity sensor.
You can also begin your favorite moment from the Home Screen or Lock Screen widget, from Shortcuts, with your Action button, or by asking Siri to “Begin a moment in Virama.” Choose your favorite moment in Settings.
How do I set up app blocking?
In Settings, turn on Block apps and allow Screen Time access when iOS asks. Then choose to block all apps, or pick the apps, categories and websites you want to quiet. They come back when your moment ends. Blocking is optional and free, and Virama never reads your browsing history.
Finish an active moment before changing the list. If Save isn’t available, Virama explains why; choosing a category instead of many single apps keeps the list within Apple’s limits. With Premium, each intention can have its own list.
What happens when I pick up my phone?
Your moment keeps going until you end it. If you started face-down, Virama counts the pickup, so Rhythm can show how often your phone stayed down. To save the moment as soon as you lift your phone, turn on Finish on pickup in Settings.
Notes, photos, Rhythm and Journal
How do notes and photos work?
When a moment ends, you can add one line and a photo. Each moment then has its own page. Choosing a photo uses Apple’s photo picker, so Virama only receives the photo you pick, not your library. Virama asks for the camera only if you take a new photo.
Virama keeps a resized copy, up to 1,600 pixels on its longest side, without the original’s metadata, including location. Photos stay in Virama on your device and are included in your backups. A photo or note appears on a share card only if you turn it on for that card.
What’s the difference between Rhythm and the Journal?
Rhythm is free. It shows your patterns: when you’re most present, how often your phone stayed down, and a gentle hope for each week. The weekly pattern shows last week at a glance and can turn your natural time into a ritual.
The Journal comes with Virama Premium. It gathers your notes and photos into monthly chapters, with your week in words, a letter each month and On this day. Premium also adds monthly insights into what helps you stay. Without Premium, your notes and photos stay readable on each moment’s page.
Backups
How do I back up my moments?
Open Settings, then Backup & restore. Choose Back up now, or turn on automatic backups: Virama makes one a day when you open it and keeps the newest seven. Backups you make yourself are kept until you delete them.
When iCloud Drive is on for Virama, backups go to Virama’s folder in your own iCloud Drive. Otherwise they stay on your device and are removed if you delete the app. Backups include your moments, notes, photos, intentions, hopes, rituals and preferences.
How do I restore on a new iPhone or iPad?
Sign in with the same Apple Account and check that iCloud Drive is on. On Virama’s welcome screen, choose “Been here before? Restore a backup.” If you’ve already set up Virama, use Restore or delete backups in Settings. Virama saves what’s on the device as a backup first, so you can go back.
App-blocking choices aren’t included in backups, so choose your apps again in Settings. To get Premium back, use Restore purchases.
How do I delete a backup?
In Settings, open Backup & restore, then Restore or delete backups. Press and hold a backup and choose Delete backup. Your moments in Virama stay as they are. To remove all of Virama’s iCloud backups at once, use your device’s iCloud storage settings.
Premium and purchases
What does Premium include?
Unlimited moments, app blocking, Rhythm, notes and photos, the weekly pattern, backups and one ritual are free. Virama Premium adds the Journal, monthly insights, up to eight rituals, rituals that begin on their own and block your chosen apps on time, and a different blocking list for each intention. It’s available monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
How do I switch between monthly and yearly?
Open your App Store subscriptions (Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions), choose Virama and pick the other plan. Apple shows when the change starts before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Moving to Lifetime? Buy it in Virama, then cancel your subscription in the same settings. Buying Lifetime doesn’t cancel a subscription on its own.
How do I restore my purchase?
In Settings, choose Explore premium, then Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. No Virama account is needed. Restoring a purchase doesn’t bring back your moments; restore them from a Virama backup.
For a refund, contact Apple through Report a Problem. Apple handles all App Store payments and refunds.
Rituals and reminders
How do rituals and reminders work?
A ritual is a moment you return to: a name, an intention, days, a time and a length, with an optional reminder. Your first ritual is free. With Premium you can keep up to eight and turn on Start moment automatically, so the moment begins at its time and your chosen apps are blocked until it ends. It’s saved to your history like any other moment.
To stop today’s automatic moment, use Stop this occurrence in the ritual; future days stay scheduled. If you turned off notifications or Screen Time for Virama, check its permissions in iPhone Settings.
Accessibility and your data
Is Virama accessible?
Virama supports VoiceOver, Voice Control, Larger Text, Dark Mode, Reduced Motion and sufficient contrast, and doesn’t rely on color alone. If something is hard to use, please tell us.
What does Reset app data do?
Reset app data removes your moments, notes, photos, intentions, rituals and preferences from this device, and turns off reminders and blocking. It doesn’t delete Virama backups, cancel a subscription or remove cards you’ve shared.
